“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy’s first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world’s one and only truth.” – Alphonse Elric
To every Fullmetal Alchemist fan those words send a chill down your spine and feels in your chest. In the age of live action adaptations we are finally seeing Fullmetal Alchemist come to life! The excitement is met with hesitation, we’ve all seen (and wish we hadn’t) the travesty that is Dragon Ball Evolution. How does the trailer hold up? While it will be truly difficult to not have a heavily CGI movie, honestly I don’t see it happening with practical effects. So where it does feel like VGHS, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Getting past that they seem to stay true to the story. The character’s are all brought to life perfectly and they truly understand what this franchise is to it’s audience. Have you seen Lust and Al?! I’m not putting all of my eggs into one basket, nor will I hold my breath in saying this will be the live action adaptation of my dreams, but I can say it will be used in future anime adaptation comparisons. Let’s all hope that it follows through on taking us on the incredible journey of the Elric brothers. We’ll either cry cause it’s awful or cry cause it was beautifully done, either way get the tissues ready.
